“Grace”, an Exhaustive Word Study
D.M.M. 1997
The word “grace” occurs approximately 128 times in the New Testament and always (except once) as approximately the same Greek word- “charis” (sometimes “charin”, sometimes “chariti”, etc.).It seemed though, upon studying, that the meaning of the word “grace” changed its meaning in different places in Scripture, so I studied each occurrence. Below is a chart of what I’ve found:
GRACE TYPES
1. Salvation 16% Acts 15:11; Ep 2:8&9; Romans 4:16; etc..
2. Favour 03% Acts 7:46, 14:3; etc..
3. Spiritual Aura 20% Lu 2:40; Jn 1:14; Rom 5:1&2, 6:1; etc..
4. Spiritual Ability 16% Acts 4:33, 14:26; II Cor 8:1&7, Ep 4:7; Rom 12:6; etc..
5. Special Task 06% I Cor 3:10&11; I Cor 15:10; Ep 3:7&8; Rom 15:15, etc..
6. Joy/ Liberality 03% II Jn 4; etc..
7. General Blessing 29% “Grace be unto you”; Rom 1:7; Rom 16: 24; I Cor 1:3,
16:23; etc..
8. Active Intercession 07% Acts 18:27; Rom 11:5&6; Heb 2:9, 4:16; etc..
100%
The conclusion of my study, though, is that grace is in all cases the active intercession of God from his throne. That’s why he says: “Come boldly before his throne of grace to receive mercy and grace to help in time of need.”
